Our Story

Serving commercial facilities

since 1980

AMS has been in continuous operation since February 1980 through its direct predecessor companies, providing commercial HVAC services to facilities across our markets for more than four decades.

In 1997, American Residential Services (ARS) consolidated more than two dozen established mechanical contractors to form a dedicated commercial HVAC organization. Those companies entered the organization with deep local roots and decades of hands-on experience, allowing AMS to establish credibility in each market from day one.

AMS Today

Today, AMS operates as an employee-owned company.

Our teams have a direct stake in the quality of our work, the relationships we build, and the long-term success of the facilities we support. AMS was built on a simple belief: if you take care of your customers and your people, success will follow. That belief continues to guide us in how we operate.

Many of the facilities we service have been
maintained by AMS for decades.

These long-term partnerships exist because we stay engaged, communicate clearly, and take ownership of the systems we support. Our customers rely on us not just to fix problems, but to help them plan for the long-term performance of their buildings.

What Sets us Apart

Why AMS?

We are one of the largest service-focused mechanical contractors in the state, yet we maintain the attentiveness and personal approach of a smaller company.

Our size allows us to support complex facilities, while our culture ensures every customer receives the attention they deserve.

At AMS, we genuinely care — about our customers,
our employees, and the industry we serve.

AMS is not a sales-led organization. Our leadership and sales team came up through the field, with many starting their careers through apprenticeship programs and working their way into leadership roles.

This field-led structure gives us a practical understanding of how buildings operate in the real world. It allows us to work alongside customers as partners—offering informed guidance that balances reliability, efficiency, and long-term capital planning. Our size allows us to support complex facilities, while our culture ensures every customer receives the attention they deserve.

AMS is a people-first organization. We invest heavily in our employees through technical training, safety programs, and personal development opportunities that support growth both on and off the job.

We are a family-first company, and we believe a strong culture leads to long-term careers. This mindset has resulted in exceptional employee longevity across both our management and field teams.
