We recently completed a much-needed cooling system upgrade for Greeley-Evans School District 6, focused on improving system reliability, performance, and long-term serviceability for the facility.
The scope includes the installation of a new 55-ton air-cooled chiller using R-454 refrigerant, along with new pumps and associated piping. R-454 is a lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant, helping align the system with current and future environmental standards. The upgraded system is designed to provide consistent cooling throughout the building while reducing the risk of unexpected downtime during peak demand.
As with many existing facilities, portions of the original system had reached the point where ongoing repairs were no longer the most effective long-term solution. Replacing the central cooling equipment allows the district to move away from reactive maintenance and toward a more reliable and efficient system.
The new chiller provides improved performance and simplifies maintenance compared to older equipment, while the updated pumping system supports better flow control and overall system stability.

A key part of this project was completing the system changeover during the spring break window. This required detailed planning, coordination, and execution to ensure the work was completed on time without impacting building operations.
Our team worked through a compressed schedule to remove existing equipment, install new systems, and bring everything online within the allotted timeframe. Because of their effort and coordination, the transition was completed with no disruption to occupant comfort.
The project also utilized MegaPress for the piping installation, allowing for faster and more consistent connections while maintaining high-quality standards. For an occupied facility, this approach helps reduce installation time and improves overall project efficiency, while still delivering a durable, long-term solution.

This project is a direct reflection of the quality and commitment of our field teams. From planning through execution, our employees delivered a clean, organized installation while meeting a tight deadline.
Their ability to execute under pressure, maintain quality, and coordinate across trades is what makes projects like this successful.
This upgrade positions the facility with a more dependable cooling system moving forward. With new equipment, improved piping, and a well-executed installation, the system is built to support consistent performance for years to come.
Whether you need ongoing service, system improvements, or help planning for the future of your facilities, AMS is ready to support you with experience, accountability, and care.
